Jacob Karr (Richmond, Va.) had four RBI and four runs scored to lead the Bulldogs past the Mountain Lions of Concord University (W.Va.) 14-5 in NCAA Division II baseball action Sunday afternoon at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. The Bulldogs complete the weekend sweep, improving to 3-0 overall. Concord falls to 0-3 on the year.
Karr had two doubles and a triple on the day to lead the Wingate attack. Freshman infielder
Michael Godinez (Cutler Bay, Fla.) was three-for-five with an RBI and a run scored. Senior outfielder
Casey Allison (Horse Shoe, N.C.) had a pair of doubles and two RBI, while redshirt junior first baseman
Brian Yeung (Raleigh, N.C.) went two-for-three with an RBI and three runs scored.

Josh Wenger (Staunton, Va.) was three-for-four with an RBI and a run scored to lead Concord’s attack. Freshman first baseman
Ryan Johnston (Ashburn, Va.) was two-for-four with two RBI, while senior infielder
Keith Morrisroe (Chantilly, Va.) was one-for-one, drawing four walks and scoring three runs.
It was Concord jumping out to an early lead, scoring three times in the top of the first. Wenger, Johnston and freshman infielder
Jerrod Groves (Covington, Va.) contributed RBI singles to make it 3-0.
The Bulldogs made it a two-run game in the second when Karr doubled to start the inning, then scored on a sacrifice fly from freshman designated hitter
Brad Cherry (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.). Morrisroe walked to lead off the top of the third, then scored on a Wingate error to give the Mountain Lions a 4-1 advantage.
The Bulldogs answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Yeung drove home the first run with an RBI single. Senior outfielder
Dodson McPherson (Graham, N.C.) scored the next run on a wild pitch, while an RBI double from Allison tied it at four. Karr followed with an RBI triple to put Wingate on top, then scored on an RBI groundout from redshirt junior catcher
Jason Hunter (West Chester, Pa.) to make it 6-4.
Wingate added five more in the fourth to go on top by seven. Godinez singled to start the frame, stole second, then scored on an RBI groundout from McPherson. The second run scored on a passed ball, while Karr’s two-run double down the left field line pushed the lead to six. He scored on an RBI double from Cherry to make it 11-4.
Morrisroe walked to start the fifth, then scored on an RBI groundout to make it 11-5. Wingate answered with a run in the sixth via an RBI single from Godinez. The Bulldogs capped the scoring with a pair of runs in the seventh. Allison plated McPherson with an RBI double to left, while Karr drove home Yeung with a sacrifice fly to make it 14-5.

Stephen Vaughan (Wilmington, N.C.) got the win, allowing one run on one hit in three innings of work in relief, striking out three. Freshman

Kyle Brady (Cincinnati, Ohio) worked the final two innings in relief without allowing a run on just one hit, striking out two. Freshman right-hander
Mike Wood (Tazewell, Va.) took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings, striking out two.
The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday, traveling to St. Andrews for a 2 p.m. start. Wingate returns home next weekend, hosting Mount Olive for a three-game series. The two teams meet for a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m., while finishing the series Sunday at 1 p.m. Concord travels to Armstrong Atlantic for a three-game series next weekend, starting Friday at 2 p.m.
