Crusaders shutout Bulldogs 8-0 Wednesday night

Wingate, N.C.----For the first time this season, the Wingate University Bulldogs were shutout, falling 8-0 to the visiting Crusaders of Belmont Abbey in NCAA Division II baseball action Wednesday night at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. The Crusaders improve to 17-10 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 14-14 on the season.
 
Sophomore infielder Gabby Amor (Miami, Fla.) had a homer and three RBI to lead the Belmont Abbey attack. Senior infielder Stephen Mullis (Charlotte, N.C.) added a homer and two RBI for the Crusaders, while senior first baseman Dan Brion (Virginia Beach, Va.) was two-for-three with two runs scored. Senior outfielder Caleb Shore (Kannapolis, N.C.) went two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored for the Crusaders.
 
Redshirt junior first baseman Brian Yeung (Raleigh, N.C.) was two-for-four with a double to lead the Wingate offense. Junior infielder James Tedder (Clemmons, N.C.) also had a double for the Bulldogs.
 
After three scoreless innings, the Crusaders got on the board in the fourth. Mullis started the offense with a two-run homer to right. Shore added an RBI single to make it 3-0.
 
Belmont Abbey added three more runs in the sixth when Amor connected on a three-run homer to left center, pushing the lead to six. An RBI single from Shore in the eighth made it 7-0. He would score the final run of the night on a passed ball, making the final margin 8-0.
 
Sophomore left-hander Cody Stull (Matthews, N.C.) got the win for the Crusaders, throwing 5 2/3 shutout innings, striking out five while allowing four hits, improving to 3-2 on the year. Redshirt junior right-hander Blake Parsley (Charlotte, N.C.) took the loss, falling to 1-1. He allowed three runs on four hits in one inning of work, striking out one.
 
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, hosting Lincoln Memorial at 6 p.m. Belmont Abbey travels to Limestone Friday at 2 p.m.
