Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh, overcoming a 6-2 deficit to earn a 10-7 South Atlantic Conference victory over the visiting Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University Friday night. The game featured a rain delay of two hours and 16 minutes between the bottom of the seventh and top of the eighth. Wingate improves to 15-14 overall and 5-8 in the SAC, while LMU falls to 14-15 overall and 7-6 in the conference.

Jacob Karr (Richmond, Va.) was two-for-four with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Wingate attack. Redshirt junior first baseman

Josh Clark (Clemmons, N.C.) each had two hits and two RBI for the Bulldogs, while freshman outfielder
Thomas Spitz (West Chester, Pa.) had an RBI and two runs scored.

Gelson Perez (Gurabo, P.R.) was two-for-five with a double, three RBI and a run scored to lead the LMU attack. Junior outfielder
Cody Baker (Knoxville, Tenn.) was four-for-four with two RBI and a run scored, while senior infielder
Joseph Horsley (Corryton, Tenn.) was two-for-four with a double and two runs scored for the Railsplitters.
Lincoln Memorial took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single from Perez. Wingate answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Karr plated the first run with an RBI double, then scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
The Railsplitters regained the lead in the third with three runs. Perez had the big hit in the inning, delivering a two-run double down the left field line. A sacrifice fly from junior infielder
Andre Rodriguez (Las Piedras, P.R.) pushed the lead to two. A solo homer from sophomore outfielder
Neil Borden (Alcoa, Tenn.) in the fourth made it 5-2, while Baker’s RBI single pushed the LMU advantage to four.
Wingate had the answer in the seventh, sending 12 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs. Two walks and a single loaded the bases with no outs. Spitz started the scoring by drawing a bases-loaded walk. A sacrifice fly from Karr made it 6-4. McPherson followed with an RBI single, while Yeung’s RBI single tied the game at six. Kyle Asher (Louisville, Ky.) faced walked home another run, while Clark’s two-run single capped the scoring in the frame, putting Wingate on top 9-6.
After the rain delay, LMU carved a run out of Wingate’s lead on Baker’s RBI single in the top of the eighth. The Bulldogs got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Spitz scored on another RBI single from Yeung, making the final margin 10-7.
Sophomore right-hander
Ben Currie (Clemmons, N.C.) got the win, improving to 3-2 on the year. He allowed six runs on 11 hits in seven innings, striking out five while throwing 109 pitches. Senior right-hander
Andy Fennell (Knoxville, Tenn.) took the loss, falling to 0-5. He allowed nine runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out five while walking five. Redshirt junior right-hander
Josh Karr (Richmond, Va.) worked a perfect ninth to nail down his seventh save of the season.
The two teams will meet for a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. The start time has been moved up one hour from the original 1 p.m. start time.
