Wingate, N.C.----- The Wingate University women’s tennis team picked up a 7-2 decision over Lincoln Memorial University Saturday afternoon at the WU Tennis Complex. The Bulldogs (9-2 overall, 2-0 SAC) have now won 13 straight regular season South Atlantic Conference matches, spanning over the last three seasons.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Railsplitters (7-3 overall, 1-2 SAC) after doubles action and never looked back. In the number two doubles, Wingate sophomore Olivia Poole (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) started the day with a decisive 8-0 victory and improved to 8-1 on the season as a doubles tandem. Wingate closed out the doubles action with a 9-7 victory in the number three singles as senior Samantha Alschlager (Indian Trail, N.C.) and sophomore Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) held on to send Wingate into singles play with a 3-0 lead.

The Railsplitters fought back with two victories in the early singles action to cut it to 4-2 but the Bulldogs showed their depth, winning the final three matches. Poole had the clincher, taking a 6-4, 6-3 decision over LMU sophomore Logan Hubbs (Knoxville, Tenn.). Junior Kelli Ferguson (Concord, N.C.) moved to 8-1 on the season in number five singles after a dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial sophomore Shena Joseph (Miramar, Fla.).

The Bulldogs will step out of conference play on Tuesday, traveling down to Florence, S.C. to take on Francis Marion. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. LMU travels to Newberry next Sunday, starting at noon.
