Wingate, N.C.----- The Wingate University women’s tennis team picked up a 7-2 decision over Lincoln Memorial University Saturday afternoon at the WU Tennis Complex. The Bulldogs (9-2 overall, 2-0 SAC) have now won 13 straight regular season South Atlantic Conference matches, spanning over the last three seasons.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Railsplitters (7-3 overall, 1-2 SAC) after doubles action and never looked back. In the number two doubles, Wingate sophomore
Olivia Poole (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman
Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) started the day with a decisive 8-0 victory and improved to 8-1 on the season as a doubles tandem. Wingate closed out the doubles action with a 9-7 victory in the number three singles as senior
Samantha Alschlager (Indian Trail, N.C.) and sophomore
Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) held on to send Wingate into singles play with a 3-0 lead.
The Railsplitters fought back with two victories in the early singles action to cut it to 4-2 but the Bulldogs showed their depth, winning the final three matches. Poole had the clincher, taking a 6-4, 6-3 decision over LMU sophomore

Kelli Ferguson (Concord, N.C.) moved to 8-1 on the season in number five singles after a dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial sophomore

The Bulldogs will step out of conference play on Tuesday, traveling down to Florence, S.C. to take on Francis Marion. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. LMU travels to Newberry next Sunday, starting at noon.
