Brevard, N.C.----The Brevard College Tornados swept a doubleheader over the visiting Bulldogs of Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference softball action Sunday afternoon. Brevard won the opener 2-0, while taking game two 4-1 to improve to 18-18 overall and 7-7 in the SAC. Wingate falls to 21-19 overall and 5-7 in the conference.
Game one: Brevard 2, Wingate 0
Junior right-hander
Kayla Clemens (Sebring, Fla.) tossed a four-hit shutout to lead the Tornados to the game one victory. Sophomore outfielder
Brittany Fowler (Waterloo, Ontario) went three-for-three with a run scored to lead the offense. Junior infielder
Brittany Tucker (Eden, N.C.) went two-for-three with an RBI for the Tornados.

Kelsey Maffucci (Rockledge, Fla.) went two-for-three with a double to lead the Wingate attack.

Brittany Jones (Fort Mill, S.C.) led off the third with a single, then scored on Tucker’s RBI single to give Brevard a 1-0 lead. Fowler started the fifth with a single, then scored on a sacrifice fly from senior catcher
Chelsi Mallory (Mechanicsville, Va.) to give the Tornados a two-run advantage.
That would be enough for Clemens, who needed just 77 pitches to improve to 11-11 on the year. She struck out three without walking a batter, while allowing three singles and a double. Freshman right-hander
Miranda Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) took the loss, allowing one earned run on seven hits in six innings of work.
Game Two: Brevard 4, Wingate 1
Senior outfielder
Maddie Fletcher (Charlotte, N.C.) went two-for-three with two RBI to lead the Tornados in game two. Sophomore pitcher
Alyssa Miller (Davie, Fla.) added a pair of hits and two runs scored, while Clemens added a double and an RBI.
Sophomore outfielder
Jordyn Setzer (Taylorsville, N.C.) had a double and a run scored to lead the Wingate attack.
Fletcher’s RBI single gave the Tornados a 1-0 lead in the second. Jones added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to two.
Clemens added an RBI double to push the advantage to three in the third. Fletcher’s RBI single in the sixth made it 4-0.
Setzer reached on a one-out double in the seventh. She moved to third on a single from senior designated player
Joya Wortham (Creedmoor, N.C.), then scored on a groundout from junior outfielder
Kasey Pendley (Marion, N.C.) to make it 4-1.
Miller got the win, improving to 7-7. She allowed one run on five hits in seven innings of work, striking out two. Paul took the loss, falling to 17-17. She allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work, striking out three.
The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, traveling to Pfeiffer for a 3 p.m. start.
