Greeneville, Tenn.----The Brevard College Tornados prevailed 1-0 over Wingate University on day two of the Food Lion SAC Softball tournament Friday morning. Brevard improves to 24-23 overall, advancing in the SAC fournament. Wingate ends its season at 26-24 overall.
Emily Boykin was one-for-three with a double and a run scored to lead the Brevard attack.
Brittany Fowler was two-for-three, while
Chelsi Mallory drove home the game’s only run. Junior outfielder
Kelsey Maffucci (Rockledge, Fla.) had the lone hit for the Bulldogs, a double in the third.
Boykin started the third with a double, while a fielder’s choice and infield single loaded the bases. Mallory drew a bases-loaded walk, giving Brevard a 1-0 lead. The margin would be enough
for Kayla Clemens, who improves to 15-15 overall. She went the distance, allowing one hit while striking out three and walking one.
Freshman right-hander
Miranda Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) took the loss, falling to 22-22 overall. She allowed one run on four hits in six innings of work, striking out seven and walking two.
