Rock Hill, S.C.----The defending Food Lion SAC women’s tennis tournament champion Wingate University Bulldogs advanced to the championship match with Friday’s 5-1 victory over the Brevard College Tornados in semifinal action at the Rock Hill Tennis Center. Wingate improves to 17-4 overall, advancing to Saturday’s championship match against Anderson. Brevard falls to 13-10 overall.

Kelli Ferguson (Concord, N.C.) and sophomore
Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) notched an 8-1 win in number three doubles to give Wingate an early lead. An 8-2 win from sophomore
Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) and freshman
Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) in number one doubles put the Bulldogs on top 2-1 heading to singles action.
Thomas, the SAC Freshman of the Year, notched her second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in number two singles. Ferguson followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win in number five singles to give Wingate a 4-1 advantage. Freshman
Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) clinched the victory for the Bulldogs with a 6-0, 6-0 win in number six singles.
The Bulldogs will be in search of their second consecutive SAC Tournament title when they face Anderson Saturday at 9 a.m. Wingate defeated Mars Hill 5-0 in the 2011 championship match. The Bulldogs defeated the Trojans 8-1 in the regular season meeting earlier this month.
