Wingate, N.C.----The UNC Wilmington men's and women's swimming teams swept a dual meet with NCAA Division II powerhouse Wingate University Saturday at the Wingate Natatorium. The UNCW men edged Wingate 152-123, while the Seahawk women defeated the Bulldogs 167-113 (
complete results).

Marko Blazevski (Skopje, Macedonia) won three men's events: the 500 and the 1000 Freestyle distance races and the 200 Butterfly. Classmates
Valerie Dembny (Bremen, Germany) and
Katie Pheil (Ocala, Fla.) won twice each for the Bulldog women. Dembny touched first in the 100 Butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley, while Pheil collected gold medals in the 200 Freestyle and the 200 Backstroke.

Seven men's pool records fell Saturday, with the host Bulldogs setting four new marks. Blazevski was three-for-three in the pool record department, as each of his individual victories is a new pool record. Blazevski posted triumphs in the 1000 Freestyle (9:29.12), the 200 Butterfly (1:51.98) and the 500 Freestyle (4:36.12).

Damjan Petrovski (Skopje, Macedonia) set a new pool record with his victorious time in the 200 Breaststroke (2:07.38). All total, the Bulldogs claimed six individual victories. Wingate senior
Spencer Waganaar (Satellite Beach, Fla.) touched first in the 100 Freestyle (47.63), while freshman
Ossian Arvidsson (Kungälv, Sweden) touched first in the 200 Freestyle (1:43.86).

Dembny had her best afternoon of the season, posting a 59.02 time in the 100 Butterfly and a 2:09.85 time in the 200 Individual Medley. Pheil earned her two triumphs in the 200 Freestyle (1:55.90) and the 200 Backstroke (2:06.45). Pheil swam one leg on Wingate's second-place 400 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay quartets.
Wingate redshirt freshman
Julie Wessler (Sprockhövel, Germany) claimed a victory in the 200 Butterfly (2:11.34). Wessler finished second in the 1000 Freestyle and third in the 500 Freestyle. Sophomore
Gillian McLean (Grand Junction, Colo.) won the one-meter diving competition. McLean outdistanced three UNC Wilmington divers with her 275.78 points.
Wingate returns to action Friday and Saturday, visiting the University of South Carolina to face the host Gamecocks, the College of Charleston and Queens University of Charlotte. Friday's action begins at 4 p.m.
