Ryan Daye (Burlington, N.C.) scored 33 points including the game-winning three with 2.9 seconds left in overtime to give the Bulldogs a 90-89 victory at Johnson C. Smith University in NCAA Division II men's basketball action Monday night. Wingate wins its seventh straight game, improving to 7-1 overall. The Golden Bulls fall to 6-2 on the season.

Deion Turman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) poured in a career-high 29 points to go along with 16 rebounds. The reigning SAC Player of the Week went 13-for-14 from the free throw line to notch his fourth straight double-double. Turman knocked down two free throws with 1.9 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Daye went six-for-10 from beyond the arc, adding four assists on the night. Sophomore guard
Xavier Griffin (Marshville, N.C.) contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists while freshman guard
Josh Dominguez (Matthews, N.C.) had seven points and eight rebounds.
LaMarquis Letchaw had 25 points to lead the JC Smith attack.
Emilio Parks registered 18 points and 10 rebounds, while
Robert Williams added 16 points and five assists.
Antwan Wilkerson had 13 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks for the Golden Bulls.
A Turman bucket and Daye triple gave the Bulldogs a 14-6 lead five minutes into the first half. A layup from
Christian Williams trimmed the lead to six, but a 10-2 run gave the 'Dogs a 14-point lead. Turman and Daye had five points each in the flurry. Smith trimmed the lead down to nine with six minutes left, but a 15-4 run put Wingate on top by 20. Griffin started the spurt with a three and two free throws, while a pair of Dominguez layups and a Turman bucket made it 39-19 with 2:54 left in the half. The Golden Bulls closed the half on a 7-4 run, getting two free throws from Parks with one second left to cut Wingate's halftime lead to 43-29.
A 6-0 run got JC Smith to within eight less than three minutes into the second half on a jumper from Letchaw. A quick 5-0 spurt from Wingate, capped by a Daye triple pushed the lead back to 13. Trailing by nine, the Golden Bulls got a Wilkerson layup and Williams three to make it 55-51 with 12:22 remaining. Daye pushed the lead back to seven with a layup, but a Williams triple and Letchaw layup made it a two point game with 8:33 to go.
Wilkerson gave JC Smith its first lead of the game by knocking down a three at the 5:10 mark. A Letchaw three and
Richard Daniels layup gave the hosts a seven-point advantage with 2:47 to go. Three Turman free throws, along with a Griffin layup cut the lead to three with 1:16 remaining. The Bulldogs would then tie the game when redshirt freshman
Bryce Benjamin (Greensboro, N.C.) converted a three-point play. Parks answered with a layup to put Smith back on top by two with 15 seconds left. Turman was fouled on the other end with 1.9 seconds left. He knocked down both free throws to send the game into overtime.
A Letchaw layup and Wilkerson free throw put the Golden Bulls on top by five with 1:32 left in overtime. Griffin answered with a three-point play to trim the lead to two. Letchaw answered with a three, but a Turman layup got Wingate back to within three. Letchaw made one free throw, while two more Turman free throws made it 89-87 with 15 seconds left. Williams was fouled and missed both free throws, giving Wingate the ball with 11 seconds left. Griffin drove the lane then found Daye open, who knocked down his sixth triple of the night to give the Bulldogs a one-point win.
Wingate shot 45.6 percent from the field, going eight-for-19 from three-point range (42.1 percent). JC Smith shot 46.8 percent from the field, hitting nine-of-19 shots from beyond the arc (47.4 percent). The Bulldogs held a 52-39 rebounding advantage, holding a 25-9 edge in second-chance points.
