Wingate, N.C.----The visiting Mount Olive College Trojans swept a doubleheader over the Wingate University Bulldogs in NCAA Division II softball action Wednesday afternoon. Mount Olive won 4-1 in game one, while adding a 7-0 victory in game two. The Trojans improve to 9-3 overall, while Wingate sees its seven-game winning streak come to an end, falling to 10-4 on the season.
Game One: Mount Olive 4, Wingate 1
Beth Overman was two-for-four with a homer and two RBI to lead the Mount Olive attack in game one.
Christie Wright was two-for-three with a homer, while
Jennifer Jones also homered for the Trojans.

Shannen Adams (Ayden, N.C.) was one-for-three with a run scored to lead the Wingate attack. Freshman catcher
Taylor Laskey (Cherryville, N.C.) went one-for-one while also drawing a pair of walks.
Mount Olive got on the board first when Overman connected on her second homer of the year, a solo shot to left to make it 1-0.
Wingate answered in the bottom of the frame. Adams led off the inning with a single, then went to second on a sacrifice and third on a wild pitch. She would score on an illegal pitch to tie it at one.
That would be all of the scoring until the sixth. With two outs and nobody on, Jones connected on a solo shot to right to make it 2-1. Wright followed with a solo shot to center on the next pitch to push the lead to two. The Trojans loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, taking a 4-1 lead when Overman drew a walk to force home a run.
Carly White got the win, improving to 3-2. She went the distance, allowing an unearned run on three hits. Freshman right-hander
Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) took the loss, falling to 5-3. She allowed four runs on nine hits in seven innings of work, striking out two.
Game Two: Mount Olive 7, Wingate 0
Kalie Smith was two-for-four with a homer and two RBI to lead the Mount Olive offense in game two.
Lauren McGrath went three-for-three with three doubles and two RBI, while
Kassie Lowe added an RBI and a run scored for the Trojans.
Adams went two-for-three to lead the Wingate attack in game two.
Smith doubled with one out in the second, then scored on an RBI single from Lowe to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
Mount Olive put up five runs in the fifth to push the lead to six. A hit, error and walk loaded the bases with one out. An RBI groundout from Smith made it 2-0. The Bulldogs had a chance to get out of the inning, but a popup just behind the infield was dropped, allowing two runs to score. McGrath followed with a two-run double to make it 6-0.
Smith added a solo homer in the seventh to make the final margin 7-0.

Miranda Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) took the loss, falling to 5-1. She allowed seven runs (two earned) on eight hits in seven innings of work, striking out two.
Wingate returns to action this weekend, traveling to Savannah to play two games against Armstrong Atlantic and two against Queens. The Bulldogs take on Armstrong Atlantic Saturday morning at 11 a.m., while taking on the Pirates again Sunday at 11 a.m. Wingate and Queens will play at 1 p.m. Saturday and again at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Mount Olive will take on Mars Hill Saturday at 1 p.m.
