Davidson, N.C. ----The Davidson College women’s tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Wingate University at the Knobloch Indoor Tennis Center Saturday morning. The host Wildcats improve to 5-2 overall, while the NCAA Division II number 30 Bulldogs are 5-2 overall.
 
Wingate earned a victory in doubles, but Davidson earned the doubles point as the match was scored with NCAA Division I rules. Bulldog sophomore Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) and senior Helen Goreski (Oakville, Ontario) defeated Wildcat junior Tamara Hill (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and sophomore Blake Nickles (Anderson, S.C.) 9-7 at the number three doubles flight.
 
Williams split sets with Davidson junior Elise Held (Butler, Pa.) at the number four singles flight. Held won the first set 6-3, while Williams took the second stanza by the same score. Held earned a 10-5 decision in the tie-breaker (played in lieu of the third set) to take the victory.
 
Davidson earned straight set triumphs in the other singles matches. Wildcat senior Catherine Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) defeated Bulldog junior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) 6-3, 6-1 at the number three singles position. In the number one singles match, Davidson freshman Elaina Cummer (Plano, Texas) defeated Wingate junior Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) 6-0, 6-1.
 
Wingate hosts Erksine College Monday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs open defense of their SAC title at Newberry Wednesday. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m. Davidson plays Wingate’s SAC foe Brevard later Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats host East Carolina March 14.
