Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs pounded out 26 hits Sunday afternoon, sweeping a South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader against the visiting Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate won the first game 11-0, while rallying for a 10-4 victory in game two to improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the SAC. LRU falls to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Junior right-hander
Olen Little (Charlotte, N.C.) tossed his second straight three-hit shutout to lead the Bulldogs to an 11-0 game one victory. Senior designated hitter

Eric Serra (Miami, Fla.) and freshman outfielder
Bill Krebs (West Chester, Pa.) drove in two runs each, while sophomore outfielder
Thomas Spitz (West Chester, Pa.) added two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore infielder
Michael Godinez (Cutler Bay, Fla.) went three-for-three with an RBI and a run scored.
Wingate got on the board in the second, plating three runs. Redshirt senior infielder
Brian Yeung (Raleigh, N.C.) started the inning with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, then scored on an LRU error. Another Lenoir-Rhyne error plated the second run of the inning, while an RBI single from Serra made it 3-0.
Wingate added four more runs in the third to make it 7-0. McCoury plated the first two runs with an RBI single. Sophomore infielder
Blake Prince (Winter Park, Fla.) added an RBI single, while another RBI single from Serra pushed the lead to seven.
Godinez ripped an RBI single to left in the fifth. Krebs added a two-run double to right center, while an RBI single from Spitz made the final margin 11-0.
Little moved to 4-0 on the year with his victory, lowering his ERA to 1.04. He allowed just three hits in seven innings of work, striking out five. In 26 innings of work, Little has allowed only 16 hits on the season.
Christian Hicks took the loss for Lenoir-Rhyne, falling to 0-2. He allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings, striking out one while walking one.
Game Two: Wingate 10, Lenoir-Rhyne 4
Yeung and Krebs each went two-for-four with a homer and three RBI to lead the Wingate attack in game two. Serra was two-for-three with two runs scored, while Prince was two-for-four with a double and two RBI.
David Martin was two-for-three with a homer to lead the Lenoir-Rhyne offense.
Colton Hansley and
Rai Robinson each went one-for-three with an RBI and a run scored for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second. Robinson led off the frame with a double, then scored on Hansley’s RBI single. Hansley would score on a double play to make it 2-0.
Wingate tied it with a pair of runs in the third. With runners on second and third with two outs, Krebs singled up the middle, driving home one run while the second run scored on a throwing error to tie the game at two.
Martin led off the fourth with a homer to put the Bears back on top 3-2. Robinson’s sacrifice fly in the fifth made it 4-2.
The Bulldogs had the emphatic answer, plating six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Krebs tied the game with a two-run homer to left center, his first career homer. Two batters later, Yeung connected on his second homer of the year, a two-run shot to put the ‘Dogs on top 6-4. Prince added a two-run double off the fence in right center to give Wingate a four-run lead.
The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the sixth. Spitz led off the frame with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, then scored on Yeung’s RBI single. Yeung would come around to score on an LRU error to make the final margin 10-4.
Redshirt senior right-hander
Joshua Karr (Richmond, Va.) got the win in relief, improving to 1-1. He tossed three scoreless innings, striking out three without allowing a hit.
Jared Carroll took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in four innings of work, falling to 1-1.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting Belmont Abbey at 4:30 p.m. Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Winston-Salem State Tuesday at 4 p.m.
