Anderson, S.C.----The Wingate University women’s tennis team remains undefeated in the South Atlantic Conference following a 7-2 victory over host Anderson (S.C.) University Wednesday at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts. NCAA Division II number 49 Wingate is 13-5 overall and 8-0 in the SAC. Anderson is 9-4 overall and 7-2 in the SAC.
 
Four Wingate student-athletes won two matches each, led by junior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.). In singles, Winston defeated AU senior Camie Beaulieu-Brunet (Montreal, Quebec) 6-1, 6-3 at the number three position. Earlier in the day, Winston paired with senior Kelli Ferguson (Concord, N.C.) to take an 8-6 number two doubles victory over Anderson sophomore Lindsay Gregory (Simpsonville, S.C.) and freshman Hannah Ecleberry (Matthews, N.C.).
 
Ferguson defeated Gregory 6-0, 7-5 at the number five singles flight. Both senior Helen Goreski (Oakville, Ontario) and sophomore Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) earned two triumphs each. They teamed to defeat Beaulieu-Brunet and freshman Alexandra Ebner (Hamburg, Germany) 8-4 at the number three doubles slot.
 
Williams defeated Ecleberry 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (8) at the number four singles position. Goreski rallied to top AU junior Lauren Trumbull (Anderson, S.C.) 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9) at the number six singles flight. Goreski clinched Wingate’s 5-4 victory over Tusculum Friday with a third set tie-breaker triumph.
 
Bulldog sophomore Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) collected Wingate’s other point with a default victory over Anderson sophomore Karen Ching (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) at the number two singles flight. Thomas was the 2012 SAC Freshman of the Year award winner.
