Charlotte, N.C.----The Wingate University men's and women's tennis teams both registered 9-0 victories at Johnson C. Smith Sunday afternoon in NCAA Division II tennis action. Both Wingate teams improve to 2-2 overall.

The Wingate men jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles action, dropping only two sets. Freshman Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) teamed with freshman Tyler Schofer (Charlotte, N.C.) for an 8-0 win at number three doubles. Sophomore Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) and junior Josh Eardley (Newcastle, England) won 8-1 at number one doubles, while freshman Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) and sophomore Westin Bennett (Calgary, Alberta) also won 8-1 at number two doubles.

Hall cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles, while Pezzoli won 6-2, 6-0 at number two singles. Kudrick won 6-1, 6-0 at three singles, while Schofer and Eardley registered 6-0, 6-0 wins at number four and five singles, respectively. Bennett finished the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles.

The Wingate women dropped just six sets in doubles action. Freshman Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) won 8-1 at number one doubles, while sophomore Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) teamed with senior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) for an 8-1 win at number two doubles. An 8-4 win at number three doubles from freshman Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Canada) and junior Sarah Martin (Chardon, Ohio) put Wingate on top 3-0 heading to singles action.

Holland notched a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles, while Tanik won 6-1, 6-0 at number two singles. Winston notched a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number three singles, while Williams won 6-0, 6-3 at number four singles. Parsons and Martin finished the sweep with 6-0, 6-0 victories at number five and six singles, respectively.

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, opening conference play at home against Newberry at 1 p.m.
