#29 Bulldogs blank Coker 9-0 for seventh straight win

Wingate, N.C.----The 29th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Coker College Saturday afternoon. The sixth-ranked team in the southeast region notched its seventh consecutive victory, moving to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the SAC. The Bulldogs are 7-0 against Division II opponents this season. Coker falls to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Senior Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) teamed with junior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) for an 8-4 win at number one doubles. Junior Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) and freshman Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) won 8-3 at number two doubles, while an 8-0 win at number three doubles from senior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and sophomore Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) gave the 'Dogs a 3-0 lead heading to singles play.

A 6-0, 6-0 win from freshman Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Canada) put Wingate on top 4-0, while junior Sarah Martin (Chardon, Ohio) won the clincher 6-0, 6-1 at number six singles. Tanik cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four singles, while Evers won 6-0, 6-2 at number one singles. Holland and Thomas won by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores at number two and three singles, respectively.

Wingate returns to action Tuesday, hosting Catawba at 2 p.m.
