#29 Wingate earns ninth consecutive victory with 9-0 triumph over F&M


Orlando, Fla.----The number 29 Wingate University women's tennis team picked up its ninth consecutive triumph Monday afternoon, defeating the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) University 9-0. The Bulldogs are 9-2 overall.
 
The three-time defending South Atlantic Conference champions did not lose a set Monday.Senior Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) and junior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) began the day with an 8-3 victory at number one doubles. Evers defeated F&M freshman Caitlin Rummelsburg (Fairfield, Conn.) 6-1, 6-4 at the number one singles flight. Thomas earned a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over F&M sophomore Emily Gruenberg (Warren, N.J.) in the number three singles match.
 
Wingate sophomore Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.), senior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and junior Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) joined Evers and Thomas with two victories each. Holland and Winston won an 8-4 decision at number three doubles, while Williams teamed with freshman Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) to take an 8-2 conquest at the number two doubles flight.
 
Holland, Winston and Williams lost only eight games collectively in their singles matches. Freshman Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) sealed the deal with a 6-3, 6-0 number six singles victory over F&M freshman Sydney Fass (London, England). Parsons has three singles wins in four tries this season.
 
Wingate will face Wesleyan (Conn.) University Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs complete their spring break excursion with matches against Northwood (Fla.) on Thursday and Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday.
