#29 Bulldogs move to 5-0 in SAC play with 8-1 win at Carson-Newman

 
Jefferson City, Tenn.----The 29th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs won 8-1 at Carson-Newman University Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. The Bulldogs improve to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the SAC. The Eagles fall to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Senior Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) teamed with junior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) for an 8-6 win at number one doubles, while a 9-7 win from freshman Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) made it 2-0. Senior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and sophomore Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) added an 8-4 win at number three doubles to give the 'Dogs a 3-0 lead heading to singles play.

Evers cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at number one singles, while Holland won 6-3, 6-3 at number two singles. Thomas prevailed 6-4, 6-2 at number three singles, while Tanik won 6-0, 6-1 at number four singles. Williams capped the day with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number six singles.

Wingate returns to action next Saturday, traveling to Brevard for a 2 p.m. match. The Bulldogs were originally scheduled to travel to Tusculum Sunday, but that match has been postponed due to weather.
