Wingate, N.C.----After dropping game one of an NCAA Division II softball doubleheader 2-0 Saturday afternoon against Limestone College, the Wingate University Bulldogs exploded for nine runs in the first inning of game two en route to a 10-2 victory, splitting the doubleheader with the Saints. Wingate moves to 14-10 on the year, while Limestone goes to 13-9 overall.
Game One: Limestone 2, Wingate 0
Bailie Maybry went one-for-three with an RBI to lead the Limestone attack in game one.
Paige Bolding was one-for-two with an RBI for the Saints, while
Ashley Cox was two-for-four with a run scored.

Alexis Burrell (Chesapeake, Va.) was one-for-three with a triple to lead the Wingate offense, while sophomore catcher
Taylor Laskey (Cherryville, N.C.) went one-for-two with a double for the Bulldogs.
Limestone got on the board in the first, with Cox leading off the game with a single, then going to second on a sacrifice. She scored on an RBI single from Maybry to make it 1-0.
The Saints added a run in the second on an RBI single from Bolding, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Wingate threatened in the fourth when Burrell ripped a two-out triple off the fence in right, but after a walk to Laskey, Limestone starter
Kelly Shearer induced an inning-ending foul out. The Bulldogs had another chance in the sixth with a runner on first and two outs. Laskey ripped a double to left center, but the runner was tagged out between third and home, ending the inning.
Shearer got the win, moving to 6-3. She allowed just five hits in seven innings of work, walking one without striking out a batter. Sophomore right-hander
Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings of work, striking out three and walking three to fall to 8-4 on the year.
Game Two: Wingate 10, Limestone 2 (5 innings)

Mellena Helms (Concord, N.C.) went two-for-three with a double, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Wingate offense. Laskey, Burrell, senior designated player

Katie McLaurin (Laurinburg, N.C.) and freshman first baseman
Amy Wingfield (Mechanicsville, N.C.) each had an RBI and run scored for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs did almost all of their damage in the first, plating nine runs to take a 9-0 lead. Saliga got the scoring started with an RBI double, while McLaurin followed with an RBI single. Wingfield's RBI double made it 4-0, while Helms delivered the big blow of the inning, a three-run double to center to make it 7-0. Burrell capped the scoring with an RBI double to put the 'Dogs on top by nine.
Limestone got on the board in the third on Maybry's RBI groundout. The Bulldogs pushed the lead back to nine in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single from Laskey.
Leea Polin connected on a solo homer in the fifth to make the final margin 10-2.
Freshman left-hander
Taylor Bates (Peachland, N.C.) got the win, moving to 5-6 on the year. She allowed one earned run on four hits in five innings of work, striking out five.
Taylor Wigmore took the loss, falling to 4-3. She allowed six runs on four hits in two-thirds innings of work.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting a doubleheader against USC Aiken at 2 p.m.Â
