Box Score Wingate, N.C.----The 38th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs cruised to an 8-1 victory Friday afternoon against Lenoir-Rhyne University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. The Bulldogs finish the SAC regular season at 18-4 overall and 11-0 in the SAC. Wingate has now won 25 straight SAC matches, clinching its fourth consecutive regular season conference title. The Bulldogs have gone undefeated in SAC play three of the last four years.
The Bulldogs won all three doubles matches Friday afternoon, starting with an 8-1 win from senior
Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) and junior
Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) at number one doubles. Junior
Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) and freshman
Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) added an 8-1 win at number two doubles, while an 8-3 win from sophomore
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) and freshman
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) at number three doubles gave the 'Dogs a 3-0 lead heading to singles.
Holland's 6-2, 6-0 win at number two singles made it 4-1, while Winston won the clincher 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles. Thomas won 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 at number three singles, while Williams cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles. Tanik capped the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number four singles.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, finishing the regular season at Mount Olive at 1 p.m. Wingate will be the number one seed at next week's Food Lion SAC title, where the 'Dogs will look for their fourth straight SAC Tournament championship.
