#38 Wingate pushes winning streak to nine with 8-1 win at Mount Olive

 

Mount Olive, N.C.----The 38th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs closed out the regular season with an 8-1 victory at the University of Mount Olive in NCAA Division II women's tennis action Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs have now won nine straight, improving to 19-4 overall. The Trojans fall to 11-7 on the season.

Wingate took two of three in doubles action on Saturday. Junior Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) and freshman Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) cruised to an 8-1 win at number two doubles, while an 8-2 win from sophomore Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) and freshman Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) gave the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

Senior Ali Evers (Roswell, Ga.) notched a 6-4, 6-3 win at number one singles, while Holland won 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 at number two singles. Junior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) prevailed 6-1, 6-3 at number three singles, while Tanik notched her team-best 19th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four singles. Senior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) won 7-5, 7-5 at number five singles, while Williams added the sixth singles win for the 'Dogs, prevailing 6-0, 6-2 at number six singles.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the Food Lion SAC Tournament, where the three-time defending champions will be the number one seed after going 11-0 in SAC play this season.
