Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University senior Ryan Forbes (Charlotte, N.C.) won the clinching singles match, lifting the number 34 Bulldogs to a 5-4 South Atlantic Conference men's tennis victory over Anderson (S.C.) University Saturday at the WU Tennis Complex. Forbes earned a 6-4, 6-3 number five singles triumph over AU sophomore Inaki Iriberry (Tandil, Argentina) to pick up Wingate's fifth point.
 
Wingate remains undefeated in the SAC with its 9-0 league ledger. The Bulldogs are 14-6 overall. The AU Trojans are 7-7 overall and 7-2 in the SAC.  The WU Bulldogs visit Tusculum Tuesday for a 12 noon SAC contest. Wingate's Monday trip to Erskine for a non-conference match has been cancelled.
 
Wingate sophomore Sebastian Hall (Lörrach, Germany) won two matches, helping the Bulldogs rally from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play. Hall and junior Neal Towlson (Warwick, Bermuda) started their day with a 9-7 number one doubles victory over AU freshmen Juan Carracedo (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Mateo Rivas (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
 
Hall's 6-0, 6-4 number two singles win over Anderson sophomore Tomas Passalacqua (Neuquen, Argentina) gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish. Anderson led 3-1 after Carracedo defeated Towlson in straight sets. Wingate's rally was a quick one, as freshmen Fillippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) and Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas) won matches at the number three and number four flights, respectively. Pezzoli and Kudrick lost only five games in the process.
 
Anderson senior Danilo Faria (Miami, Fla.) won two matches for the visitors. He helped AU earn its first point by teaming with sophomore Paul Michael Calhoun (Starkville, Miss.) to defeat Kudrick and Forbes 8-4 at the number two doubles flight. Later in the day, Faria earned Anderson's final point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Wingate junior Josh Eardley (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England).
