Charlotte picks up 6-1 victory over Bulldogs Saturday afternoon

Charlotte, N.C.----The Charlotte 49ers picked up a 6-1 victory over visiting Wingate University in NCAA women's tennis action at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex. The 49ers improve to 3-1 on the year, with the Bulldogs falling to 0-2 overall. Both Wingate losses have come to NCAA Division I opponents.

Charlotte took all three doubles matches on Saturday. Wingate's number one doubles team of freshmen Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) and Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) once again made it tough, dropping a 6-4 match after falling 8-7 at Campbell Friday.

In singles action, junior Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) picked up a 6-7, 6-3, 10-8 victory at number two singles. Womeodu nearly forced a third set, dropping a second set tiebreaker 7-4 at number four singles.

The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday, traveling to Erskine to take on the Flying Fleet at 2 p.m.
