Anderson, S.C.----The Anderson University Trojans overcame a seven-run deficit Saturday night, using a four-run eighth inning to defeat visiting Wingate University 13-12 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. The Trojans improve to 12-9 overall and 8-5 in the SAC. The Bulldogs fall to 15-7 overall and 9-7 in the conference.
Brett Cash was three-for-four with a double, triple, three RBI and four runs scored to lead the Anderson attack.
Travis Smith and
Stephen McKnight drove in two runs each, while
LJ Newman added an RBI and two runs scored for the Trojans.
Junior outfielder
Bill Krebs (West Chester, Pa.) was two-for-three with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Wingate attack. Senior first baseman
Brad Cherry (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) went three-for-five with a homer and two RBI, while freshman designated hitter
Bradley Brown (Rockingham, N.C.) had a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore infielder
Shane Billings (Kernersville, N.C.) added three hits, an RBI and two runs scored.
Wingate jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. The 'Dogs loaded the bases, while a three-run double from Brown made it 3-0. He would score on a

Michael Godinez (Cutler Bay, Fla.) led off the second with a triple, then scored on a Billings RBI single to push the lead to five. Billings scored on a
Colby Barnette (Monroe, N.C.) sacrifice fly to make it 6-0, while a Krebs sacrifice fly in the third put the Bulldogs on top by seven.
Anderson scored five times in the third to cut the lead to two. A wild pitch started the scoring, while Newman added an RBI single. Cash followed with a two-run single, while a Smith RBI single made it 7-5. The Trojans added a run in the fourth on a double play to cut the lead to one.
Wingate responded in the fifth, getting a two-run homer from Krebs to push the lead back to three. Senior outfielder
Thomas Spitz (West Chester, Pa.) added a sacrifice fly to make it 10-6.
Anderson got back to within two in the fifth, getting RBI singles from

Tyler Miller. The Bulldogs again had the answer, taking a 12-8 lead in the sixth when Krebs connected on a two-run homer.
McKnight's RBI single in the seventh got Anderson within three at 12-9. The Trojans scored four times in the eighth to take the lead. Cash's RBI double started the scoring, while a sacrifice fly from Smith made it a one-run game. McKnight tied the game with an RBI double, while an RBI groundout from
Kyle Bailey put Anderson on top 13-12.
