Newberry, S.C.----The number 47 Wingate University women's tennis team won its 30th consecutive South Atlantic Conference regular season match Tuesday, taking an 8-1 decision over host Newberry College. With the victory, Wingate improves to 6-4 overall and 5-0 in the SAC. Newberry is 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the SAC.

Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) and sophomore
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) made quick work of their doubles and singles matches, dropping only six games collectively. In doubles, Holland and Tanik started their afternoon with an 8-2 victory at the number three flight.

Holland defeated Newberry junior
Vanessa Ortiz (Cochabamba, Bolivia) 6-0, 6-2 in the number two singles match. Tanik matched her doubles partner with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Newberry junior
Tara Lamers (Maastricht, The Netherlands) at the number four singles flight. Senior
Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) and freshman
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Cojedes, Venezuela) finished the match with pro-set victories at the number five and number six singles flights, respectively.

"The women played a complete match today for the first time all season," Wingate head women's tennis coach
Michael Cabana says. "We showed (ourselves) how good of a team we can be when we come to play. We have to refocus now and get ready for Tusculum on Friday."

Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) won the battle of the number one players, as she outlasted Newberry sophomore
Elizabeth Williamson (Canterbury, New Zealand) 6-2, 7-6 (4). Earlier in the day, Ternera teamed with Thomas to collect an 8-3 triumph in the number one doubles match.

Wingate will host Tusculum Friday at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs will entertain Carson-Newman Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Wingate will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, honoring Thomas,
Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) and
Sarah Martin (Chardon, Ohio) in pre-match festivities.    Â
