#49 Bulldogs down Trojans 6-3 to push winning streak to nine

Wingate, N.C.----The 49th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs picked up their ninth consecutive victory Sunday afternoon, defeating the University of Mount Olive Trojans 6-3 in NCAA Division II women's tennis action. The 'Dogs improve to 10-4 overall, while Mount Olive falls to 8-4 on the year.

Wingate's number two doubles team of freshmen Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) and Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) picked up an 8-4 victory. Junior Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) and sophomore Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) won 9-8 at number three doubles to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

Womeodu won 6-3, 6-0 at number three singles, while Tanik prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at number four singles for the Bulldogs. Senior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number five singles, while Garcia won 6-1, 6-1 at number six singles.

The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday, traveling to Anderson for a 2 p.m. start.
