Harrogate, Tenn.----The Wingate University Bulldogs won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches Sunday afternoon, notching a 6-3 win at Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. The Bulldogs improve to 4-4 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while LMU falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Freshman
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) cruised to an 8-0 win at number two doubles, while junior
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) teamed with sophomore
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) for an 8-1 win at number three doubles, giving Wingate a 2-1 lead heading to singles.
Womeodu won her first set 6-1 at number three singles, while her opponent retired in the second set. Tanik won 6-4, 6-1 at number four singles, while senior
Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) won 6-0, 6-3 at number five singles. Garcia capped the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number six singles.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting Brevard at 2 p.m.
