Anderson, S.C.----The 49th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs remained unbeaten in conference play Wednesday afternoon, prevailing 6-3 at Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 11-4 overall and 9-0 in the SAC, while Anderson falls to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
Freshmen
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) picked up an 8-4 win at number two doubles. Junior
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) and sophomore
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) added an 8-5 victory at number three doubles to put Wingate on top 2-1 heading to singles play.
Womeodu won 6-2, 6-1 at number three singles for Wingate, while Tanik cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory at number four singles. Senior
Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 win at number five singles, while Garcia won 6-2, 6-1 at number six singles for the Bulldogs.
Wingate is back in action Monday, traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 12 p.m. start.
