#49 Bulldogs sweep Bluefield State to push winning streak to 12

Wingate, N.C.----The 49th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs won their 12th consecutive match Saturday afternoon, prevailing 9-0 against visiting Bluefield State in NCAA Division II women's tennis action. The Bulldogs improve to 14-4 overall, while Bluefield State falls to 6-13 on the year.

Wingate got things started by sweeping through doubles action. Sophomore Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) and senior Becca Thomas (Alpharetta, Ga.) got things started with an 8-6 win at number one doubles. Freshmen Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) added an 8-2 win at number two doubles, while an 8-1 victory at three doubles from senior Tiffany Williams (Cary, N.C.) and sophomore Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) made it 3-0 heading to singles play.

Ternera won 6-3, 6-1 at number one singles, while junior Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at two singles. Womeodu cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at three singles, while sophomore Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at number four singles. Thomas won 6-0, 6-1 at five singles, while Garcia capped the day with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number six singles.

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season Tuesday, taking on Georgia College at 12 p.m. That match will take place in Augusta, Ga.
