Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.) posted one goal and two assists as the Bulldogs blanked Lincoln Memorial University 7-0 in South Atlantic Conference action at Pride Park Saturday. Six different players scored goals for Wingate.
Wingate improves to 5-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the SAC. Lincoln Memorial is 1-7 overall and 1-4 in the SAC. The Bulldogs host SAC foe Coker College Wednesday at 5 p.m. LMU steps out of the league fray to visit Converse College Tuesday at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs recorded five goals in the first half. Freshman midfielder
Taylor Krakower (Wayne, N.J.) scored a close-range goal in the 19th minute, thanks to assists from Moore and redshirt sophomore midfielder
Colleen Zickert (Arlington Heights, Ill.). Leyble found a wide-open Moore 32 seconds later for Wingate's second goal.
Leyble made the score 3-0 Wingate in the 30th minute. Krakower notched the assist with a service to Leyble, who found herself in a one-on-one situation with LMU senior goalkeeper
Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.). The Wingate junior curled the shot into the right-hand corner of the goal.
Six minutes later, WU freshmen defender
Dani Fiorito (Apex, N.C.) posted her first collegiate goal in the 36th minute, thanks to assist from senior midfielder and 2015 Academic All-America®
Kaitlyn Brunworth (Littleton, Colo.). Fiorito was one of three Bulldogs to score their first goal of the season Saturday.
In the 41st minute, sophomore defender
Caileigh Apicella (Islip Terrance, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season (and second of her career) on a long-range free kick. Apicella's goal completed the quintet of first half goals. Wingate had 15 first half shots, while LMU recorded three.
Moore scored her team-best fifth goal of the season in the 57th minute. Leyble provided the assist. Sophomore forward
Sophie Jendrzejczyk (St. Charles, Ill.) took a Apicella pass and posted Wingate's final goal with two seconds remaining. The tally was her first of the 2016 campaign.
Wingate had 29 shots with 18 on goal. LMU did not shoot in the second half, finishing the afternoon with three shots and two on goal. Bulldog junior goalkeeper
Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) had two saves while collecting her fifth victory of the season. Lundy took the loss between the pipes, allowing five goals and posting six saves in 55-plus minutes. LMU sophomore
