Wingate, N.C.----The Francis Marion University Patriots defeated 35th-ranked Wingate University 6-3 in NCAA Division II women's tennis action Friday afternoon. FMU improves to 4-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-2 on the season.

The Patriots won two of the three doubles matches Wednesday afternoon. Wingate's number two doubles team of freshmen Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) and Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) picked up an 8-3 victory.

The Bulldogs picked up two wins in singles action. Sophomore Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory at number three singles. Homan picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at five singles. De Andreis and senior Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) both lost in three sets on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, opening conference play at 11 a.m. against Lincoln Memorial.
