Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 45th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs opened South Atlantic Conference play with a convincing 8-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial University in NCAA Division II men's tennis action Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Railsplitters fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Wingate picked up two wins in doubles play, getting an 8-1 victory at one doubles from senior
Sebastian Hall (Lorrach, Germany) and junior
Connor Kudrick (Spring, Texas). Sophomore
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) and freshman Dun
can Addison (Halifax, Canada) added a 9-7 victory at two doubles to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
Hall cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at one singles, while Kudrick won 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 at number two singles. Junior
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at three singles, while Zari rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory at number four singles. Sophomore
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at five singles, while sophomore
Nicholas Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory at six singles.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting Catawba at 2 p.m.
