Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 35th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs opened conference play with a 6-3 victory over visiting Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon. Wingate improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Railsplitters fall to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The Bulldogs swept through doubles play on Saturday. Sophomores
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) rolled to an 8-2 win at number one doubles. Freshmen
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) and
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) prevailed 8-4 at number two doubles, while sophomore
Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) and junior
Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) won by the same score at three doubles.
Womeodu picked up her second win of the day at number three singles, prevailing 6-2 and 7-5. Senior
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) added a 6-4, 6-3 victory at four singles, while junior
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at six singles.
The Bulldogs are back in action Sunday, playing their third match in three days at Davidson at 1 p.m.
