Box ScoreDavidson, N.C.----The 35th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs played their third match in as many days Sunday, falling 6-1 against NCAA Division I Davidson in women's tennis action. The Wildcats move to 5-2 on the year, while Wingate falls to 3-3 overall. The Bulldogs are 1-2 against Division I opposition this season with a 2-1 mark against Division II opponents.
Davidson captured the doubles point by winning all three matches. Wingate's number one doubles team of sophomores
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) and number two doubles team of freshmen
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) and Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) lost by identical 6-3 scores. Juniors
Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) and
Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) dropped a 6-4 decision at number three doubles.
In singles action, Wingate junior
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number six singles. Homan dropped her first set 6-2 at number five singles, then dropped the second set 7-6, falling in a tiebreaker.
The Bulldogs play their fourth match in five days Tuesday, hosting Catawba at 2 p.m.
