Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 35th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs won their 41st consecutive league match Monday afternoon, defeating visiting Catawba College 8-1 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 9-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The Bulldogs swept through doubles play on Monday, getting an 8-6 win from sophomores
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) at number one doubles. Freshmen
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) and
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) cruised to an 8-1 win at two doubles, while senior
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) and junior
Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) won 8-2 at number three doubles.
De Andreis rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 win at one singles, while Holland won 6-4, 6-2 at three singles. Homan won 6-3, 6-2 at number four singles, while Tanik rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at five singles. Garcia finished things off with an 8-3 win at number six singles.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, traveling to Georgia College for a 12 p.m. start.
