Box ScoreCharlotte, N.C.----The 35th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs cruised to a 9-0 victory at Johnson C. Smith University in NCAA Division II women's tennis action Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 1-1 on the year, while the Golden Bulls fall to 0-4 overall.
Wingate swept through doubles play, dropping just one set in the three matches. Sophomores
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) prevailed 8-1 at number one doubles. Freshmen
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) and
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.), along with juniors
Sierra Parsons (Toronto, Ontario) and
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) won 8-0 at number two and three doubles, respectively.
De Andreis won 6-1, 6-1 at number one singles, while junior
Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) won 6-1, 6-0 at two singles. Senior
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number three singles. Homan, Garcia and Parsons also rolled to 6-0, 6-0 wins at four, five and six singles.
The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday, traveling to NC A&T for a 2 p.m. match.Â
