Misenheimer, N.C.----The Pfeiffer University Falcons won two out of three doubles matches Tuesday afternoon, splitting six singles matches en route to a 5-4 victory over visiting Wingate University in NCAA Division II women's tennis action. The Falcons improve to 5-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 7-5 on the season.
Pfeiffer picked up two wins in doubles play on Tuesday. Wingate's lone victory came at two doubles, with sophomore
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) and freshman
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) prevailing 8-1.
De Andreis notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number one singles for the Bulldogs. Classmate
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) added a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number five singles, while junior
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) won 6-2, 6-3 at six singles. Sophomore
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and senior
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) both lost tough three-set matches in singles play.
Wingate is back in action Friday, traveling to Tusculum for a 2:30 p.m. start.
