Box ScoreGreeneville, Tenn.----The 35th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs won their 42nd consecutive South Atlantic Conference match Friday afternoon, winning four of six singles matches to prevail 5-4 at No. 47 Tusculum College in SAC women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in the SAC, while the Pioneers fall to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Sophomore
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) teamed with junior
Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) for a 9-7 win at number one doubles for the Bulldogs. Tusculum picked up 8-5 and 8-2 wins at number two and three doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
Tusculum won at number two singles to go on top 3-1, but senior
Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) prevailed 6-3, 7-6 at four singles to make it 3-2. Freshman
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) won 6-4, 6-3 at one singles to tie the match, while junior
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) put Wingate on top with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at five singles. Womeodu won the clincher for the Bulldogs, prevailing 6-3, 6-3 at number three singles.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, traveling to Carson-Newman for an 11 a.m. start.
