#35 Wingate remains perfect in league play with 6-3 win at Carson-Newman

Jefferson City, Tenn.----The 35th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs pushed their SAC winning streak to 43 Saturday afternoon, picking up a 6-3 victory at Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 9-5 overall and 6-0 in the SAC, while the Eagles fall to 7-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

Wingate went 2-1 in doubles action on Saturday. Freshman Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) teamed with sophomore Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) for an 8-2 win at number two doubles. Junior Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) added an 8-3 victory at three doubles to give Wingate a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

De Andreis rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at number one singles for the Bulldogs. Senior Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at four singles, while Tanik won 6-0, 7-5 at number five singles. Homan rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number six singles.

Wingate is back in action Thursday, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m.
