Box ScoreWingate, N.C.----The 39th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs remained perfect in league play Wednesday afternoon, picking up an 8-1 victory over visiting Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 11-5 overall and 8-0 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
The Bulldogs took two out of three in doubles play on Wednesday. Junior
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) got it started with an 8-2 win at number three doubles. Freshman
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) teamed with sophomore
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) for an 8-4 win at two doubles for the Bulldogs.
Homan rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at six singles, while Tanik prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at number five singles for the Bulldogs. Sophomore
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) won the clincher at three singles, notching a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Senior Caroline Holland (Spartanburg, S.C.) rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at four singles, while De Andreis prevailed 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at one singles. Sophomore
Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) capped the day with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory at number two singles for Wingate.
