Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs scored two goals in a minute midway through the first half Wednesday evening en route to a 3-0 victory over Pfeiffer University in NCAA Division II women's soccer action. The Bulldogs move to 1-1-1 overall, while the Falcons fall to 1-1 on the year.
Wingate got on the board in the 27th minute when sophomore forward
Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.) found the back of the net for the second time in as many games, heading in a perfect cross from freshman forward
Taylor Krakower (Wayne, N.J.) to make it 1-0.
The Bulldogs wasted no time adding to their lead. All-Region defender
Macy Franklin (Conover, N.C.) took a deflection off a
Caileigh Apicella (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) corner kick and scored her first goal of the season, making it 2-0. Wingate held an 8-1 advantage in shots in the first half, with a 3-0 edge in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs added an insurance goal with 28 minutes remaining in the second half. Krakower again got it started, sending a lead pass to junior forward
Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.), who got behind the defense and netted her first goal of the year to make the final margin 3-0.
Wingate ended the night with a 13-4 advantage in shots, with a 6-0 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Leyble took a match-high four shots, with two shots on goal.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, hosting Lander at 4 p.m.
