Harrogate, Tenn.----The Wingate University Bulldogs pushed their SAC winning streak to 51 Saturday afternoon, rolling to an 8-1 victory at Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while the Railsplitters fall to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Bulldogs went 2-1 in doubles play, getting an 8-3 win at number one doubles from sophomores
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) and
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.). Seniors
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and
Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) added an 8-5 victory at three doubles to give Wingate the lead heading to singles play.
Freshman
Marisa Ostoja (Split, Croatia) gave Wingate a 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 win at six singles, while Tanik rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at five singles to make it 4-1. Ternera won the clincher, prevailing 6-3, 6-1 at number two singles. De Andreis won 6-0, 6-3 at one singles, while freshman
Elena Pellegrini (Livorno, Italy) won 8-6 at four singles. Junior
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) added an 8-6 victory at number five singles for the Bulldogs.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting Anderson at 2 p.m.
