#45 Wingate blanks Carson-Newman for 53rd straight SAC win

Wingate, N.C.---The 45th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs rolled to a 53rd straight SAC win Friday afternoon, downing visiting Carson-Newman University 9-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate improves to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the SAC, while the Eagles fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Juniors Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) picked up a 9-8 victory at number one doubles. Senior Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) teamed with sophomore Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) for an 8-3 victory at two doubles, while senior Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) won 8-0 at three doubles.

De Andreis won 6-4, 6-2 at one singles, while Ternera rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number two singles. Freshman Elena Pellegrini (Livorno, Italy) won 7-6, 6-0 at three singles, while Womeodu cruised to an 8-0 victory at four singles. Tanik won 6-2, 6-1 at five singles, while Homan capped the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number six singles.

Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting Queens at 2 p.m.
