Hickory, N.C.----The 33rd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs prevailed 7-2 at Lenoir-Rhyne University Thursday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate wins its 57th consecutive SAC match, improving to 13-2 overall and 9-0 in league play. The Bears fall to 8-10 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
The Bulldogs swept through doubles play Wednesday morning, before the match was halted due to weather. Juniors
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) rolled to an 8-1 victory at one doubles. Senior
Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) teamed with sophomore
Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) for an 8-2 victory at two doubles, while senior
Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) won by the same score at number three doubles.
De Andreis won 6-2, 6-0 at number one singles, while freshman
Elena Pellegrini (Livorno, Italy) prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at three singles. Tanik rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at five singles, while Homan capped the day with an 8-1 win at number six singles.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, traveling to Coker for a 1 p.m. start.
