Hartsville, S.C.----The 42nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs picked up their fifth consecutive victory Saturday afternoon, rolling to an 8-1 win at Coker College in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the SAC, while the Cobras fall to 8-10 overall and 2-7 in league play.
The Bulldogs swept through doubles play, getting an 8-5 victory at one doubles from junior
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman
Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.). Seniors
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) and
Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) notched an 8-4 win at two doubles, while junior
Theo Dessacs (Toulouse, France) teamed with sophomore
Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) for an 8-6 win at three doubles to put Wingate on top 3-0 heading to singles play.
Senior
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) rallied for a 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory at one singles, while Belsito rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at two singles. Dessacs rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 win at three singles, while junior
Nicholas Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at number five singles. Addison capped the day by cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win at six singles.
Wingate is back in action Sunday, hosting Tusculum at 2 p.m. to close out conference play.
