#33 Wingate pushes SAC winning streak to 58 with 8-1 victory at Coker

Hartsville, S.C.----The 33rd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs rolled to an 8-1 victory at Coker College Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. Wingate pushes its historic SAC winning streak to 58 matches, improving to 14-2 overall and 10-0 in league play. Coker falls to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in league play.

Wingate swept through doubles play Saturday, starting with an 8-3 victory at one doubles from juniors Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela). Senior Andrea Ternera (Bogota, Colombia) teamed with sophomore Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) for a 9-7 victory at two doubles. Senior Layla Tanik (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) rolled to an 8-1 win at three doubles to put the 'Dogs on top 3-0 heading to singles play.

De Andreis won 6-3, 6-2 at one singles, while freshman Elena Pellegrini (Livorno, Italy) won 6-1, 6-1 at three singles. Tanik cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at four singles to move to 15-0 in singles play this season, while Homan won 8-0 at five singles to improve to 13-2 on the year. Freshman Marisa Ostoja (Split, Croatia) capped the day with an 8-4 victory at number six singles.

The Bulldogs are back in action Sunday, closing out SAC play at 2 p.m., hosting Tusculum. The 39th-ranked Pioneers are 8-1 in league play entering Sunday's match. A victory would give Wingate its seventh straight SAC title. The Bulldogs are looking for their sixth undefeated conference season in seven years.
