Wingate, N.C.----The 42nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs capped regular season league play in style, rolling to a 9-0 victory over visiting Tusculum College in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 15-3 overall, ending league play at 10-1 while the Pioneers fall to 10-10 overall and 5-5 in the SAC.
Wingate started the day with a 9-7 victory at one doubles from junior
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman
Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.). Seniors
Amir Zari (Jerusalem, Israel) and
Tyler Schofer (Graham, N.C.) won 8-6 at two doubles, while junior
Theo Dessacs (Toulouse, France) teamed with sophomore
Duncan Addison (Halifax, Canada) for an 8-5 victory at three doubles.
Senior
Filippo Pezzoli (Milan, Italy) won 7-6, 6-4 at one singles, while Belsito cruised to a 6-0 victory in set one at two singles before his opponent withdrew. Nicholas Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won 6-3, 6-3 at number six singles.
Wingate is back in action Monday, traveling to Limestone for a 2:30 p.m. start. It will be the fourth match in five days for the Bulldogs, who defeated Lenoir-Rhyne Thursday and Coker Saturday before Sunday's win over Tusculum.
