Davidson, N.C.----The 20th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs suffered their first setback of the season Sunday afternoon, falling 6-1 at NCAA Division I foe Davidson in NCAA women's tennis action. The Wildcats improve to 7-2 on the season.

Davidson went 2-1 to pick up a point in doubles play. Wingate juniors Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) and Sydney Homan (Huntsville, Ala.) picked up a 6-2 victory at number two doubles.

Sophomore Michela Verpelli (Milan, Italy) won at number one singles, rallying for a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory. Freshman Chyi Lee (Wenshan District Taipei, Taiwan) won the first set at three singles, but lost the following sets 6-4, 6-3. Davidson won in straight sets at two, four, five and six singles to clinch the win.

The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday, hosting Anderson at 1 p.m. in the SAC opener.
