Atlanta, Ga.----Wingate University swimming teams finished second in the Emory Invitational this weekend. The Emory University Eagles host the annual event at the Woodruff P.E. Center. The Bulldogs won five events (three women, two men) on Saturday. NCAA Division III powerhouse and host Emory won both the men's and women's meet (
Saturday's results;
complete results package).
On the men's side, number three Emory had 631 points. Number 20 Wingate had 605.5 points, followed by number 17 Carson-Newman with 429.5 points. The number one Emory women had 672 points. The number nine Wingate women had 593 points, while number 17 Carson-Newman collected 422 points.

Wingate junior
Iran Almeida (Roanoke, Va.) won the 100 Butterfly (49.19) and collected three silver medals (one individual, two relay). Sophomore
Daniel Brisuda (Cumming, Ga.) won the 100 Backstroke (51.66) and joined Almeida and two teammates in the second-place 200 Medley Relay swim (1:33.49). Emory edged Wingate by 0.44 seconds in the aforementioned relay event.
Senior
Giacomo Viazzo (Lonato del Gardo, Italy) was second in the 200 Breaststroke (2:04.94) with the winner posting a time of 2:04.15. Viazzo joined Brisuda, Almeida and junior
Kalle Svensson (Lysekil, Sweden) in the 200 Medley Relay event.
Senior team captain
Markus Furst (Jönköping, Sweden) was second to Brisuda in the 200 Backstroke (51.94), while swimming the anchor leg on Wingate's silver-medal winning 400 Freestyle Relay quartet (3:05.99). Emory won the 400 Freestyle Relay by 0.08 seconds.
Freshman
Marcel Snitko (Bad Zwischenahn, Germany) was second in the 200 Freestyle (1:42.75) and joined Almeida, Furst and freshman
Frederik Oscar Moller (Charlottenlund, Denmark) in the 400 Freestyle Relay swim.
Women's recap
Wingate sophomore
Kate Agger (Broomall, Pa.) made it a clean sweep of the endurance races, as she touched first in the 1650 Freestyle Saturday (17:34.91). On Friday night, Agger won the 500 Freestyle (5:03.52).
WU junior
Maike Hoener (Langlingen, Germany) won the 200 Breaststroke (2:23.58) to lead a 1-2-3 photo finish for the Bulldogs. Freshman
Lily Sanocki (Charlotte, N.C.) was second (2:23.62), while junior
Anne-Sofie Nissen (Copenhagen, Denmark) was third (2:23.72). Nissen and Hoener were joined by two teammates as the Bulldogs finished second in the 200 Medley Relay (1:47.12).
Bulldog senior
Mathilde Cros (Pont de L'arn, France) won the 200 Freestyle with her triumphant time of 1:54.76. In the meet's final event, Cros and three teammates finished second in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:33.68). Cros swam the second leg.
Sophomore
Anna Miram (Ludvika, Sweden) had another solid day. She swam the first leg on the aforementioned 200 Medley Relay quartet. Later, Miram finished second in the 100 Backstroke (56.70) as Emory's winner posted a time of 56.59. Miram concluded her night with the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Two-time national champion and WU senior
Abby Kosic (West Chester, Pa.) swam the anchor leg on the 200 Medley Relay team. Bulldog junior

Leticia Odorici (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) swam the third and anchor legs, respectively, in the 400 Freestyle Relay (with Miram and Cros).
NEXT ON THE HORIZON
Both Wingate teams return to the pool Friday, Nov. 22, venturing to Charlotte for the three-day Fall Frenzy Invitational. Queens University of Charlotte is hosting this event at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center (MCAC) in downtown Charlotte.
