Bulldogs and Trojans split Sunday doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Anderson, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs rolled to a 7-0  victory in game one of Sunday's South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader at Anderson University, while the Trojans prevailed 4-1 in game two. Wingate moves to 28-14 overall and 7-7 in the SAC, while the Trojans go to 23-17 overall and 5-7 in league play.

- The Trojans committed the only three errors in the game
- The Bulldogs left 11 on base; the Trojans stranded five

- Rachel Weidner tossed a two-hit shutout

- Loney got things started with a one-out single, then moved to second on a wild pitch
- She scored on Floyd's RBI single to give Wingate a 1-0 lead

FOURTH INNING

- Floyd reached on an error with one out
- She scored when Cashwell reached on an error to put the 'Dogs on top by two

FIFTH INNING

- Coyne started the frame with a double
- She scored when Swenson connected on her seventh homer of the year, a two-run shot to make it 4-0
- Loney followed by drawing a walk, then moved to second on a Taylor Wells single
- Floyd's RBI single plated Loney to put the 'Dogs on top by five

SEVENTH INNING

- Polk lined a one-out double to right center, then scored when Cashwell reached on an error
- Cashwell scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0

WRAPUP

- Weidner got the win, moving to 14-6
- She tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out six and walking two
- Harlie Duncan took the loss, falling to 13-6
- She allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings

- The Bulldogs out-hit the Trojans 6-5
- Wingate had three extra-base hits; Anderson had two, both teams homered
- The 'Dogs left nine on base; the Trojans stranded four

- Floyd was two-for-three with a homer to lead the Wingate attack
- Coyne and Loney each added a double

- An RBI single from Morgan Charter put the Trojans on top by two
- Kayson Boatner followed with a two-run homer to make it 4-0

- Wingate got on the board when Floyd connected on a solo homer to make it 4-1

WRAPUP

- Kayla Pepper got the win, moving to 10-11
- She allowed a run on six hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking two
- Reep took the loss, falling to 13-5

- Wingate returns home Tuesday to host Queens for a 2 p.m. doubleheader
