Simpson drives in eight as ‘Dogs open SAC play with DH sweep over Royals

Box Score Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University shortstop Carson Simpson drove in eight runs Saturday as the Bulldogs opened league play with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Queens University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate won the opener 6-3, while scoring 10 runs in the final two innings of game two in a 13-5 victory to move to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the SAC. The Royals fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

- He scored from second on Simpson's flyout to deep center to tie it at two
- Bryant followed with a triple, then scored on a Queens error to put WU back on top

- A Noah Jones RBI single in the top of the frame tied it at three
- Simpson drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the inning, then went to third on Bryant's single
- Simpson scored the go-ahead run on another Queens error, making it 4-3

- A walk and error put runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning
- Motsinger's two-run double to right put Wingate on top by six

WRAPUP

- Nash got the win, moving to 2-0 on the year
- He allowed one earned run on six hits in five innings, striking out four and walking one
- Farris worked the final two innings without allowing a run on one hit, striking out two to earn the save
- Tanner Jacobson took the loss, falling to 0-1, allowing four runs on four hits in four innings

- Simpson got another chance with the bases loaded and hit one off the right field fence, clearing the bases again to give WU an eight-run lead

WRAPUP

- Josh Karklin got the win, moving to 1-0
- Johnson worked the final two innings without allowing a base runner, striking out four of the six batters he faced
- Chris Ragosta took the loss, allowing three runs on a hit in one-third of an inning
